Srinivasan, Krishnaswamy

Biography

Professor Krishnaswamy (Cheena) Srinivasan is an emeritus faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University (OSU). He joined the faculty in 1979 and retired in 2020, his service including a stint as department chairperson from 2000 to 2012. He has also served as Associate Dean for Research for OSU's College of Engineering, and as Program Director in the National Science Foundation. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and B. Tech. in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. 

During his term as chairperson, he oversaw fundraising for, and construction of, the Peter and Clara Scott Laboratory, the new home of the department since 2006, the consolidation of the 1999 merger of the mechanical engineering department with the applied mechanics section, and the 2010 merger of the mechanical engineering department with the department of aerospace engineering to form the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering. In addition, as part of the university's change in the academic calendar from quarters to semesters in 2012, he managed the formulation and adoption of new undergraduate curricula in mechanical engineering and in aeronautical and astronautical engineering, with significantly increased emphasis on experiential learning.

Expertise

Professor Srinivasan's research and teaching interests are in the areas of modeling and control of dynamic systems, including applications to automatic transmissions in automobiles, manufacturing processes and mechanical systems. His research has been funded by government agencies including the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Office of Naval Research, and private industry. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
