Brune, Ryan

Biography

Dr. Ryan Brune is a lead engineer at The Ohio State University’s Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME). Joining the CDME team in 2017 with over 10 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, he has led a variety of projects related to impulse manufacturing, high pressure die casting, polymer injection molding, dissimilar metal laser welding, agile tooling approaches, and additive manufacturing.

He received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Ohio Northern University. Since then, he has received a Master of Science in materials science and engineering from The Ohio State University. He also went on to receive a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at Ohio State relating to the use of impulse manufacturing technology for forming and welding operations.

Previously a postdoctoral researcher at CDME and a graduate research associate with the Impulse Manufacturing Laboratory in Ohio State’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Brune has since made successful strides in introducing university technologies and research capabilities to the manufacturing sector.

“CDME is a great atmosphere to work in due to the large variety of project topics and breadth of technological applications we are working with daily. Working in an environment where we can leverage these attributes while providing valuable experience to our student interns is very rewarding, and it keeps me interested in producing what I can through my work every day.”

Currently, as a member of the Medical Modeling, Materials, and Manufacturing group, Brune manages the CDME Prototyping Laboratory, which leverages a variety of polymer-based additive manufacturing technologies to develop prototype parts and assemblies to be used in biomedical-device focused project applications. The lab's resources are also key to the success of other project efforts across CDME, in cases where 3D printing design, preparation, fabrication, and post-processing are needed to contribute to the scope of work's success as a whole.

Originally from Decatur, Indiana, Brune currently resides in Bexley, Ohio.
